Does a Clean House Sell Faster?

It seems that there are some people that don't think a clean house is important when they put a house on the market. As a real estate agent, I have often been asked over the past 12 years by home owners if having the house spotless is necessary when potential buyers are coming to view the home. I am amazed that I am even being asked such a question. Of course it matters. The average buyer can make their decision if that house is the wrong one for them just by the way the house is kept or even by the odor that greets them at the front door. Buyers often look at 8-12 houses before they make a decision on which one is best for them. As a seller, you don't want to make your house easy to remove from the buyer's list of potential options, simply from a lack of cleaning, strange odors, or both. A clean, well maintained home often sells faster and for more money than those that are not clean. There have always been two things a seller has control of when putting their house on the market: price & condition! Here is the catch; condition has a direct correlation with the price a buyer is willing to pay.
